Homepeel has gone to enormous effort to research, source and select our key ingredients.  We learned very quickly that the quality of ingredients can mean the difference between a product being effective or ineffective.  Below is a brief summary or story if you will of each of our key ingredients and the trials, tribulations and reason we have chosen them.

Camellia Oil is one of the best kept Asian secrets. It has been used by the people of Asia for centuries to aid in their skin care. It really has only been the last few years that western societies have embraced the amazing properties of Camellia Oil. Extracted from the Tea Plant (from the seeds), Camellia Oil is grown mainly in China and boasts the following gorgeous properties; Due to Camellia Oil’s structure being very similar natural human sebum (skins natural oil) it is one of the most rapidly absorbed oils

• It has good disinfecting and germicide effects
• Contains Vitamins A,B,C,E,K & P
• It contains over 90% unsaturated fatty acids
• Also contains minerals such as Phosphorus, Calcium, Iron, Manganese and Magnesium
• Is rich in plant collagen

Homepeel has taken great time, expense and effort to make sure we obtained the best Bladderwrack possible.
Homepeel acquires its Bladderwrack organically from France.
It is an antioxidant with water binding properties. Water binding properties help keep moisture in the skin.
Bladderwrack is a sea botanical very high in natural vitamins and minerals.
To name just a few; 12 Vitamins (including A, B1, B2, C, D and E), Magnesium, Calcium, Phosphorus, Iron, Potassium, Iodine, 21 Amino Acids and over 60 trace elements.

There is no better example of the importance of quality of ingredients than with our herbs. In the early stages of our research and development, we hit a brick wall. After much trial and error along with seemingly endless research nvolving herbalists, scientists and potential consumers, we discovered that the quality of the herbs was crucial.
We needed our herbs to be from the best sources and prepared in the correct manner in order for them to retain their active ingredients. This meant we had to start again, (plus purchase herbs at a much higher price!), straight away we started getting the desired results. There are hundreds of vitamins and minerals present in the ingredients in our herb mixture.
 
Along with hundreds of active substances, to name a few:
*Horsetail contains flavonoids, calcium, magnesium and vitamin C. Horsetail has a strong effecton skin cell regeneration.
*Marigold contains flavonoids, fatty acids, malic acid, vitamins K, C, E and manganese. Marigold improves skin circulation and encourages lymph flow.
*Ribwort contains amino acids, citric acid, vitamin C, provitamin A, Vitamin K, calcium and Zinc. Ribwort is detoxifying and regenerating.

There are many people who believe that using salicylic acid in skin peels is the superior choice. One of the main reasons is the fact that salicylic acid causes far less irritation than members of the AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) family. Salicylic acid is derived from White Willow Bark. Salicylic acid is a very effective anti-inflammatory.
Salicylic acid peels exfoliate both the surface of the skin and within the pores themselves. It is able to penetrate into the pore because it is oil soluble. This is great news for people who wish to rid themselves of years of dry, dull skin build up. Using salicylic acid is a safe and effective way to improve the look of sun-damaged and aging skin.
 
It’s also beneficial in reducing the appearance of mild acne scars. Salicylic acid loosens the stratum corneum. The stratum corneum is the most upper layer of skin.
 
It as made up of tightly compacted dead skin cells. This stratum corneum is what gives the skin it’s dull, slightly leather look. These dead cells will shed, revealing the new cells underneath. This results in an improvement in the smoothness and radiance of your skin. The salicylic acid accelerates the skins natural exfoliation process.

The Haberlea Rhodopensis is also known as the Resurrection Plant because it has a quite unique property that makes it a very useful addition to skin moisturisers. It is a hardy plant that can dry out completely and survive extended waterless periods. Upon the re-introduction of water, the plant can completely recover.
The Resurrection plant has this amazing ability through its cosmotropic properties. Cosmotropic substances have the ability to stabilise the structure of surrounding molecules from breaking down, leading to a structured biochemical environment
 
The beauty of including this in our Marine Nourishing Cream is that it helps to protect and hydrate the skin cells through out the peeling process.

Wheat Germ Oil is a Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF). NMF’s are ingredients that mimic the skins natural moisturizing function.
 
Wheat Germ Oil is high in natural Vitamin E. Vitamin E is an oil soluble vitamin that is one of the body’s leading antioxidants. It helps maintain healthy red blood cells and circulation. The natural form of Vitamin E (as used by Homepeel) is clearly superior to the synthetic copy and means it gets absorbed into the human body twice as fast.
 
Wheat Germ Oil can inhibit collagenase. Collagen is decomposed by the enzyme collagenase. Collagenase activity may decrease with the use of Wheat Germ Oil, allowing your very important collagen to survive.

Rose Hip Oil is rich in Vitamin C and it is in the form of an essential fatty acid (EFA) which is essential in preventing damage to skin tissue.
 
The best feature of Rose Hip Oil is its ability to produce all the benefits of tretinoin without the side effects. What is tretinoin you ask? It’s a miracle ingredient. Have you ever heard of Retin-A? In the past it was prescribed in a cream form to help cure acne. As a side effect it was noticed that fine lines and wrinkles were decreasing, in some cases disappearing!
 
Retin-A contains tretinoin which is an acid form of Vitamin A that is effective in improving cell production, replenishes and helps rebuild skin tissue.
 
Before you run out to there chemist to purchase it, you may need to know that it is now by prescription only because when using tretinoin, your skin becomes extremely photo sensitive, so if you get any sun exposure you can do damage Tretinoin also has a number of side effects like skin shedding and redness. You really eed to be advised by a professional in the effects of tretinoin before you begin to use it.
 
Back to what Rose Hip Oil and Tretinoin have in common. Rose Hip Oil also contains a trans-retinoic acid (tretinoin). So by using Rose Hip Oil, you get to enjoy all the benefits of tretinoin without the side effects. Rose Hip Oil also contains antioxidants in the form of Vitamin E.
 
Just a little note here to let you know that Homepeel is in current development of a new skin cream that will mimic the effects of Retin-A.

An anti inflammatory, aids in collagen production and contains antioxidants, strengthens the skins defences and improves dermal micro-circulation.

Carrot Oil is also an ingredient that is abundant in vitamin A and carotenoids. Retin-A is also a carotenoid preparation. (See description of Rose Hip Oil for the wonders of Retin-A)
 
  *Carrot Oil contains Beta Carotene which is a highly effective antioxidant.
  *Carrot Oil contains large amounts of vitamins and minerals.

Aloe Vera gel is the leaf pulp that makes up the inner portion of the Aloe Vera leaves. Aloe Vera contains over 75 nutrients with 200 active compounds including minerals, 18 amino acids and 12 vitamins.
 
Aloe Vera contains polysaccharides that act as moisturizers that hydrate the skin. Aloe Vera also has the ability to interfere with the enzyme that produces melanin. This is very useful in stopping the arrival of pigmentation.

 Homepeel uses certified organic spray dried dehydrated aloe from Mexico. Dehydrating the aloe prevents the material from oxidising.

Shea butter is the natural fat extracted from the fruit of the Shea tree by crushing and boiling. It is used as a moisturiser and an emollient. It is filled with fatty acids to stimulate skin renewal and tocopherols (vitamin E) for antioxidant function.

Although called Jojoba Oil, it is not really oil but a liquid wax. This makes it very stable and it does not deteriorate easily.
 
The structure of the Jojoba Oil closely resembles that of our own skin sebum. Sebum is the skins own lubricating substance (skin oil). This makes it an amazing natural moisturiser. Due to very high compatibility with our skin, Jojoba Oil does not clog pores and helps to balance sebum levels.
